Oncology Nurse Navigators

The mission of the oncology nurse navigator program at Houston Methodist Cancer Center is to enhance your care by providing a seamless navigation process from diagnosis to survivorship. We understand that at times you may need some help getting the care and support you need, so our oncology nurse navigators are available to:

 

  • Answer general questions about your treatment options, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy
  • Coordinate care with your health care team
  • Direct you to health care services for further diagnosis and treatment
  • Direct you to local resources and support

Claudia Bartos, RN, CCRC, CNBN — Texas Medical Center

Claudia joined Houston Methodist after more than 20 years as a registered nurse in a variety of roles and settings. This vast experience, combined with her more than 10 years of working with oncology patients, makes her perfect for helping patients at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Texas Medical Center navigate the cancer care process. Melody Simonini, MBA, RN, OCN — Texas Medical Center

Melody has been a nurse for more than 15 years, with 10 years of experience in oncology; she currently works with oncology patients at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Texas Medical Center. Oncology has been Melody’s passion since she was in nursing school. She was encouraged by how hard the patients worked to beat cancer and felt as though she was part of their journey. Melody has never met a stranger, and feels as though her patients are members of her family. Peggy Lipka, BSN, RN-BC — Baytown

Peggy has 15 years of experience with oncology patients. She has been with Houston Methodist Baytown for the past 30 years. She has a Bachelors’ degree from University of Texas Medical Branch and has a certification in Medical-Surgical nursing. As a nurse navigator at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Baytown, Peggy is excited to empower,  encourage and guide patients through the cancer care process, keeping the patient at the center of her care.  Oncology patients face many challenges during their illness and treatment and a navigator plays a crucial role in helping these patients through each phase of cancer care. Karen Batiste, MSN-ED, RN-CMSRN — Baytown

Karen joined Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Baytown this year with 10 years of Nursing Experience and 7 years of oncology experience with a focus in hematologic cancers. Karen holds a Master’s degree in nursing education and has her certification in Medical Surgical Nursing. She is excited to be a part of the oncology team here at Houston Methodist Baytown. Joan Burnham, MSN, RN, OCN — Sugar Land

Joan is an oncology nurse navigator at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Sugar Land with over 30 years of oncology experience, working in the office, infusion, acute care and home health arenas. She received her Master’s Degree in Nursing in 2018, has served on the Oncology Nursing Society WOW Chapter board for 10 years, and has also served as an Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy Trainer. As an oncology patient navigator for thoracic, gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers, she focuses on educating patients about their diagnosis, advocating for individuals undergoing cancer treatments, helping them make timely decisions about their treatment, providing assistance with scheduling and coordinating with the physicians involved in each patient’s treatment. Amalia "Rose" Gonzales, MSN, RN, OCN — Sugar Land

Rose is an oncology nurse navigator at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Sugar Land with over 14 years of experience caring for patients. She is an oncology certified nurse, and completed her Master’s Degree in Nursing with an education focus in June, 2017. As an oncology patient navigator for breast and gynecologic cancers, she focuses on educating patients about their diagnosis, advocating for individuals undergoing cancer treatments, helping them make timely decisions about their treatment, providing assistance with scheduling and coordinating with the physicians involved in each patient’s treatment. Peggy Reinhold, RN, MHA — The Woodlands

Peggy has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of roles as a registered nurse. As an oncology nurse navigator at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at The Woodlands, she is a strong and compassionate patient advocate who collaborates with the health care team to achieve the best outcomes and experiences for patients and their families. Peggy has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as a master’s in healthcare administration. Peggy has been very active in community outreach in Montgomery County for more than 20 years which is an asset to patients as they seek additional support within their communities. Erica Esprit, BA, RN, CHW — West Houston

Erica joined Houston Methodist West Hospital in 2011. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social work and has been a registered nurse for more than 10 years. She has spent her career serving patients and empowering diverse populations through nursing, case management and advocacy, making her ideal for guiding patients at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at West through the often complex cancer care process. Letty Riley, MSN, RN, CEN — West Houston

Letty has 30 years of experience as a registered nurse in a variety of roles and settings. She joined Houston Methodist West Hospital in 2012 and currently serves as an oncology nurse navigator for breast cancer patients at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at West. Her expertise, as well as her strong beliefs in the value of patient- and family-centered care, perfectly suit her as she helps breast cancer patients navigate cancer care. Naureen Ismail, MPA-HCA, Bsn, Rn, OCN — Willowbrook

Naureen is an oncology nurse navigator at Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Willowbrook. She has worked in oncology for more than 20 years and enjoys the opportunity to make a true connection with her patients. Her philosophy focuses on constructive relationship building and collaboration across the care continuum while empowering patients through education, advocacy, facilitation, and support. In addition, Naureen is active in community outreach, involved with the American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Breast Health Collaborative, and other local organizations. Katherine Beetle, BSN, RN, OCN — Willowbrook

Katherine joined Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Willowbrook in 2017 with 10 years of oncology experience. She received her Bachelors of Nursing at Lamar University, is an oncology certified nurse, and has since dedicated her career to patients dealing with the difficult cancer diagnosis. Katherine believes navigation is the ideal role for her as she has the opportunity to utilize her clinical knowledge together with her compassionate nature to facilitate the needs of her patients and their family members. She looks forward to working closely with her patients to provide emotional support, help coordinate care logistics and serve as a key collaborative resource throughout their cancer journey.
