This site provides important information about your physical, occupational or speech therapy experience. You may need to refer to it from time to time throughout your course of treatment.

Patient Experience

  • We strive to provide excellent care and service to every patient. Your safety and comfort are our utmost priorities.
  • One of the ways we measure our performance is through a patient survey, which you may receive via phone, text or email in a few days. This survey is specific to therapy. It does not pertain to your doctor’s appointment.
  • We greatly appreciate all returned surveys. You may also provide feedback to your therapist or any member of the leadership team during your care. We welcome the opportunity to immediately address your concerns.

Your Therapists

  • You will be treated by highly trained and experienced clinicians who provide the latest and most sophisticated evidence-based care.
  • Our team consists of more than 15 board-certified/fellowship-trained therapists experienced in orthopedic, sports and hand therapy. Our nationally accredited residency and fellowship programs provide advanced clinical training to licensed clinicians who may be involved in your treatment.
  • Your therapy team works closely with your physician to ensure continuity of care.

Our Therapy Clinics

  • We use state-of-the-art equipment, including the antigravity treadmill which uses NASA-based antigravity technology and the Biodex Balance System which is used to improve balance, increase agility and develop muscle tone.
  • Our orthopedic & sports medicine clinic located on the first floor of Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine offers an indoor batting cage and golf net; an indoor pool for aquatic therapy; and an outdoor 20-by-40-yard turf field for athletes recovering from injury. These areas allow therapists to recreate the athletic environment to allow for faster return to previous levels of activity.

Your First Appointment

  • To accelerate your registration process, you will receive a link to access your intake forms via MyChart. We encourage you to complete all intake forms prior to your initial visit.

  • Please bring a list of any medications you are taking, a copy of your therapy prescription, insurance cards, photo ID, and any other related diagnostic test reports, such as MRI or X-ray scans that you may have available. Arriving early will enable you to complete patient information forms without missing any valuable time with the therapist.
  • Wear comfortable clothing, such as shorts and loose-fitting shirts, and tennis shoes appropriate for exercise. Please, no skirts or dresses. Depending on your therapy, you may be asked to lie down or sit on a table; be sure you can do so in the clothing you wear.
  • Your therapist will conduct an evaluation during your first appointment. You will be asked a series of questions, and measurements will be taken to identify your limitations related to self-care, household tasks, leisure activities, and job duties, especially as these relate to areas of pain, stiffness, or weakness. This evaluation is used to develop a therapy plan to improve your ability to perform the activities that are important and meaningful to you in your day-to-day life.
  • Following the evaluation, your therapist will discuss the findings with you and discuss what you will work on during future sessions. You may also learn about exercises you can perform at home that may help accelerate your recovery.
  • It is not uncommon for patients to experience soreness after their initial evaluation. However, if you experience more pain and soreness than usual following treatment, please inform your therapist as your treatment plan may need to be modified.

About Your Sessions

  • Therapy sessions generally take 45 minutes to one hour.
  • To accommodate all patients and increase the consistency of your care, therapists may treat more than one patient simultaneously. In addition to your evaluating Physical Therapist, you may be attended by other Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants and Technicians. All clinicians who take part in your care will be knowledgeable of your clinical history and current treatment plan prior to working with you.
  • Re-evaluations will be completed at least every 30 days to assess your progress. This is often required by your physician and insurance company.  It is also required by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners for patients receiving physical therapy.
  • Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital provides translators in a wide range of languages. If you or a family member needs translation assistance, please advise the front desk prior to your therapy.
