Dr. Jerry Estep is the Medical Director of the Heart Transplant and LVAD Program at the Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center and JC Walter Jr. Transplant Center at The Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. As a staff member he has been actively involved in several multicenter trials including NHLBI (The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute) studies for patients with heart failure. His recent original work includes the evaluation of biomarkers and echo indices to facilitate the management and prognostication for patients with decompensated heart failure. Moreover, he is actively involved in research related to multimodality imaging to care for heart failure patients with LVAD’s. He has contributed to several published articles related to advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, and advanced treatments for amyloid cardiomyopathy. His recently published manuscripts appear in Circulation, Circulation Heart Failure, JACC, and JACC Imaging. He serves as peer review editor for Circulation, JACC, JASE, Journal of Cardiac Failure and The American Journal Transplantation. He has been recognized for his efforts and contributions and regularly presents at society meetings which include ACC, AHA, ASE, and ISHLT.

Description of Research

Dr. Estep conducts clinical trails of novel therapies and investigational new drugs in patients with decompensated heart failure and mechanical circulatory support/LVADS for heart failure.
