Full Affiliate Member, Research Institute
Houston Methodist

Biography

Dr. Mason received his first faculty appointment in 1972 at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He would later become a full professor there in both pediatrics (division of infectious diseases) and virology and microbiology. He is a member of the affiliate staff at Texas Children’s Hospital, an appointment he has had since 1975.

Description of Research

Dr. Mason’s research activities focus on Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae infections of children, with a special interest in mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. He has published greater than 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and was honored for his contributions by election as a Fellow into the American Academy of Microbiology in 1989.
