Cardiac Health & Rehabilitation Program

The Cardiac Health and Rehabilitation Program, part of Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, is dedicated to providing the services and support that patients need to recover from heart disease. We help them make important lifestyle changes through a combination of education, counseling and a supervised exercise regimen. Our program is built around five key services:

  • Exercise training under the direct supervision of a physician
  • Medication review
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Lifestyle management
  • Risk factor modification

Inpatient Program

Our inpatient cardiac rehabilitation program focuses on the needs of patients recovering from coronary procedures such as angioplasty/stent placement, heart transplant, coronary artery bypass and valve replacement or repair. Rehabilitation usually begins within hours after surgery and continues through most of the patient's stay.

Outpatient Program
Our outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program helps patients make essential lifestyle changes through monitored exercise and classes on nutrition, stress management and behavior modification. Recovering patients work with dietitians, pharmacists and physiologists, who can address any questions or concerns.
