Jake Burkhalter

Football has long been the love of Jake Burkhalter's life, having played the game since he was six years old. By age 16, he had earned a spot on his high school varsity team where the stakes were raised and the game felt like much more than just having fun with friends.

One night during a spirited play, Jake's knee seemed to pop in the wrong direction, and he feared the worst — being taken off the field due to injury. Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital was just minutes away, and the specialists there diagnosed a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), a common knee ligament injury in rigorous sports. Surgery was scheduled to repair the tear, and a physical therapy regimen of focused exercises followed.

Jake felt that the tear was "one of the worst things that could happen" to a young football player, but he found the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital rehabilitation facility "awesome," and is thankful for his 100 percent recovery.

Now focused on tackling the next season, Jake is ready for whatever the next game brings.
