Biography

Dr. Castillo earned his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC). He completed an anatomical and clinical pathology residency at UTHSC in 2014. Dr. Castillo then completed a blood banking/transfusion medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. He joined UTHSC as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in 2015 and served there for four years in the areas of transfusion medicine/apheresis, hemotherapy consultative service, coagulation, and immunology before joining Houston Methodist Hospital as a staff pathologist in 2019. He is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as blood banking/transfusion medicine by the American Board of Pathology.

Dr. Castillo is a member of the College of American Pathologists, the Houston Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, AABB, and the Texas Society of Pathologists. His areas of expertise include transfusion medicine and coagulation.  His clinical interests include apheresis, coagulopathy, and the management of acquired bleeding with evidence-based transfusion practices and hemostatic agents.
