Our transplant surgeons are part of Houston Methodist J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center, one of the top hospital centers in the nation for patients with organs that cannot be effectively treated with medication or surgical repair. As a high volume center, our surgeons have performed more than 5,000 surgeries over 50 years.

Houston Methodist treats patients with all types of end-stage organ failure, including congestive heart failure, lung disease, liver diseasediabetes, pancreatitis and more. It is the most comprehensive center in the Greater Houston area performing transplantation of the following organs:
  • Heart: when congestive failure and other types of cardiac disease cause permanent damage to the heart
  • Kidney: when damage to the kidney cannot be reversed
  • Liver: when the effects of liver damage cannot be managed
  • Lung: when damage to the lungs cause permanent breathing difficulties
  • Pancreas: when the effects of pancreatitis and other pancreatic diseases cannot be managed
  • Pancreatic islet cells when diabetes cannot be controlled by medication
  • Multiorgan: including heart-lung, heart-liver, heart-kidney, liver-kidney and heart-lung-liver transplants

Additionally, Houston Methodist JC Walter Jr. Transplant Center is one of a few centers performing tissue (including bone marrow) and stem cell transplants.
