Elective Learning Experiences (One month in duration)

Electives may be selected from, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Hematology/Oncology
  • Neurology
  • Pharmacy Informatics
  • Psychiatry
  • Solid Organ Transplant

Residents may also repeat any learning experiences in which they have a particular interest at an advanced level experience.


Longitudinal Experiences

Each resident is required to complete longitudinal activities in:

  • Medication Safety
  • Pharmacy Management
  • Doctor of Pharmacy student instruction

There is also an optional Teaching and Scholarship in Academia Certificate Program through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy


Staffing

  • Staffing every third weekend in both operations and clinical pharmacist roles and one weekday evening shift every two weeks averaged over a four week period
  • Additional responsibilities as part of clinical specialist on-call program during the second half of the year
  • Residents will work one major and one minor holiday

Presentation Opportunities

  • Platform Presentation at Midwest Pharmacy Residents Conference and poster presentation at ASHP Annual Meeting
  • One hour ACPE-accredited continuing education program

Research Experience

  • Major research project with guidance of a preceptor and the Pharmacy Research Committee
  • Quality improvement project which is often a medication use evaluation
