Houston Methodist provides the support and tools you need to get started on your weight loss journey. Setting goals is an important part of any weight loss plan, but focusing on only the end goal can make the process frustrating. At Houston Methodist Weight Management Center, our weight loss specialists work with you to help set realistic goals along the way, so you can see your progress, build motivation and feel good about yourself throughout the entire journey.
The Weight Management Center offers a variety of medical and surgical weight management programs intended to be used in combination with healthy lifestyle changes, such as proper diet and exercise. Below are more details on all of the comprehensive programs we offer to help you make the best weight loss decision for your specific needs.
Step LITESM is a program with a realistic approach to healthy nutrition, weight loss and lifestyle changes. This program provides an option to anyone who desires to lose up to two pounds per week.
Medical Weight Management
This safe, medically monitored dietary program is designed for qualified patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above. This option allows patients to achieve a slightly more rapid weight loss than is likely with a standard diet. This program also offers education and group support to assist in maintaining a healthy weight.
Weight Loss Surgery
Weight loss (bariatric) surgery is the primary option to effectively treat morbid obesity in people for whom more conservative measures, such as diet, exercise and medication, have failed. Our experienced surgeons perform adjustable gastric banding, gastric sleeve and roux–en–Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgeries using the latest and safest techniques.
The diabetes education program at Houston Methodist is recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Our programs are designed to focus on individualized treatment plans for individuals with diabetes so they can self-manage their disease and improve their health and vitality.
Medical Nutrition Consultation
An essential part of our comprehensive treatment plan includes individual counseling from our highly skilled nutrition experts to meet your specific health and dietary needs. This includes a metabolic analysis, which is a simple test to determine the rate at which you burn calories.
Although each individual's weight loss goal is different, the aim of treatment remains the same — to improve your health and quality of life. Research shows that losing as little as 5 to 10 percent of your body weight can result in noticeable improvements to your health and put you on a path to a more positive lifestyle.
