JoEllen Young

JoEllen Young, a 60-year-old high school cafeteria manager, fell to the floor one day while at work. Her supervisor and the school nurse noticed her mouth was sagging so they drove her to Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital where it was determined she had suffered a stroke. She stayed in the hospital for about a week and then went to Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital Center for rehabilitation for a month. The stroke affected JoEllen’s left side; she continues with outpatient therapy several times a week. She cannot drive and misses doing ordinary tasks, like doing her own hair, but she is so grateful for the care she received at Houston Methodist and is working toward recovery.
