- About Annual Tuberculosis Surveillance:
- TB screening and testing is done by birth month.
- We provide annual TB testing to protect you and to protect our patients. All Houston Methodist employees, including those who do not have direct patient care responsibilities, are required to participate in TB testing.
- New hires are required to receive 2 TB skin tests.
- Immunizations for prevention of hepatitis B, chickenpox, measles/mumps/rubella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis and influenza.

- Clinical care including assessment, diagnosis, management, and documentation of occupational illness and injury, including post-exposure assessment and management of biological and chemical exposures.
- What to do in the event of an On the Job Injury:
- Complete an employee on the job accident report in STARS found in Tools and Resources – Reporting Incidents section on The HUB.
- Contact Employee Health at your entity specific location or report directly to your entity specific Employee Health location during business hours.
- If after Employee Health business hours, weekends or holidays and the injury requires emergency treatment, report to the nearest Houston Methodist Emergency Department.
- What to do in the event of a Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure (BBP):
- Access your entity specific BBP exposure process which can be found on your entity specific Employee Health Intranet site.
- Complete an employee on the job accident report in STARS found in Tools and Resources – Reporting Incidents section on The HUB.
- Contact Employee Health at your entity specific location or report directly to your entity specific Employee Health location during business hours.
- If after Employee Health business hours, weekends or holidays, follow your entity specific BBP exposure process which can be found on your entity specific Employee Health Intranet site.
- Clinical case management of occupational illnesses and injuries
- Respiratory Protection in collaboration with Safety
- Medical clearance for respiratory fit testing
- Respiratory Fit Testing - Quantitative and Qualitative
- Fitness for Duty evaluations
- Return to work evaluations
- Facilitator for testing of impaired employee.
- Collaboration with Safety in identification, monitoring, and reduction of health hazards in the workplace.
- Collaboration with Safety in regards to identification of health hazards and surveillance of employee populations, workplaces, and community groups
- Collaboration with Safety and Workers’ Compensation to analyze illness and injury episodes and trends
- Collaboration with Safety to promote and protect employee health and safety
- Compliance with laws, regulations, and standards governing health and safety for employees and the environment
- Counseling, health education and training programs in coordination with other key stakeholders (ie: Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, nursing education)
