Research
Houston Methodist Department of Orthopedic Surgery is dedicated to conducting cutting-edge translational research aimed at developing and bringing to the clinic new strategies to prevent and treat orthopedic conditions. In addition to a world-renowned team of orthopedic surgeons actively involved in research, the department includes and collaborates closely with researchers who are experts in regenerative medicine, engineering, and nanotechnology to name a few.
Our researchers are addressing clinical challenges that affect professional athletes and performing artists to patients with traumatic or degenerative injuries. We have ongoing research projects in several areas like regenerative medicine to promote osteogenesis, surgical infection prevention with the use of antibiotic releasing microspheres, arthritis management through the use of growth factors for tissue recovery, and imaging for improved preoperative evaluation and surgical planning. We have developed and improved many orthopedic devices, procedures and therapies that have been translated into clinical practice worldwide.
