- Pharmacy Administration and Clinical Project Management
Longitudinal Learning Experiences
- Drug Information (12 weeks)
- ACPE Accredited Program (duration 12+ weeks, variable time over span of 3-4 months)
- Clinical and Operational Coverage (approximately every 3rd weekend, averaged over the residency year)
- CQI Project (duration 12+ weeks, variable time over span of 3-4 months)
- Major Research Project (duration 12+ weeks, variable time over span of 10-11 months)
Elective Learning Experiences
The residents will have the opportunity to select four-1 month electives, and one 2-week elective during the residency year. Elective learning experiences may be selected from, but are not limited to, the following: Academia, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Oncology- Ambulatory Care, Advanced Medication Safety (2-week), and potential off-site opportunities*.
For critical care, infectious diseases, and internal medicine, a resident may choose to take an Introductions experience as an elective, prior to taking Foundations:

Select required experiences may be repeated (after the resident has successfully completed the Foundations experience) as an elective with the resident functioning in an advanced role:

*Additional elective learning experiences (bone marrow transplant, neurology, pain management, psychiatry, and solid organ transplant) at our system’s flagship 900-bed teaching hospital in the Texas Medical Center, based on resident’s schedule and preceptor availability.
Staffing
- Staffing will occur every third weekend in clinical and operational pharmacist roles
- Residents will work one major and one minor holiday
Presentation Opportunities
- Poster presentation at Vizient Pharmacy Network Meeting
- Platform presentation at Alcalde Southwest Leadership Conference and TSHP conference
- One hour ACPE-accredited continuing education program
- Platform presentation at Houston Methodist Research Symposium
Research Experience
- Major research project with guidance of a preceptor and the Pharmacy Research Committee
- Medication use evaluation or quality analysis of existing protocols
Professional Meetings
- Vizient/ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
- TSHP Conference
Optional Longitudinal Experience
- Teaching and Scholarship in Academia Certificate Program through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy
