The Houston Methodist Institute for Reconstructive Surgery is dedicated to helping people restore form and function lost to trauma, tumor, disease and congenital differences. The Institute is comprised of six centers of excellence providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art care in reconstruction of the breast, paralyzed face, lower extremity, pelvis-genitourinary system and disorders requiring microsurgical expertise. These innovative surgical techniques provide new and dramatic treatment options for restoring contour, movement and sensation. Utilizing advanced surgical treatment in a caring environment, the Institute has assisted many individuals in regaining a productive, fulfilling lifestyle.

CENTER FOR BODY CONTOUR RESTORATION

Assisting patients in achieving an external appearance that reflects their inner self-image is the mission of the Center for Body Contour Restoration. Patients who have experienced significant weight loss or undergone bariatric surgery will often develop loose skin producing an appearance that does not correlate with their new feeling of health and vigor. Innovative body contouring surgery is now available to assist these individuals in completing their transformation. The patient’s goals and desires are carefully considered in the creation of their individualized treatment plan.

CENTER FOR BREAST RESTORATION

Our goal at the Center for Breast Restoration is to provide state-of-the-art breast restoration techniques in a caring, supportive environment that allows each woman to complete successful rehabilitation from breast cancer and other breast-related problems. The center offers all forms of breast reconstruction, including implants and all varieties of autologous reconstruction. Our physicians are national leaders in breast restoration, and we are dedicated to treating our patients as individuals. Selecting a confident surgical team to help guide you on your road to recovery is an important first step in achieving peace of mind.

We also provide coordinated specialty treatment in conjunction with the Houston Methodist Breast Care Center.

CENTER FOR FACIAL PARALYSIS SURGERY AND FUNCTIONAL RESTORATION

Facial nerve paralysis can be caused by a large number of conditions including Bell’s palsy, trauma, tumors and congenital differences (i.e. Moebius Syndrome). Loss of facial nerve function often results in severe cosmetic and functional problems, including impairment of facial expression, speech, eating and vision. Self-consciousness and social isolation frequently arise in the wake of these physical changes. At the Center for Facial Paralysis Surgery and Functional Restoration, our physicians utilize innovative surgical techniques to restore the paralyzed face. The use of advanced surgical techniques, carefully tailored to the individual, can produce a meaningful recovery for patients with facial paralysis.

CENTER FOR GENITO-URINARY AND PELVIC RECONSTRUCTION

The Center for Pelvic and Genito-Urinary Reconstruction provides access to the latest reconstructive surgical techniques in an environment of discretion and respect. The potential loss of sexual function, bowel and bladder control, and sense of wholeness associated with congenital differences and treatment of genitourinary and colorectal malignancies, can profoundly impact an individual’s quality of life. Our surgical team can help lead you on the road to recovery. The provision of coordinated, multidisciplinary care and advanced surgical reconstruction in a thoughtful environment maintains each patient’s dignity while improving quality of life.

CENTER FOR LOWER EXTREMITY RESTORATION (LIMB CENTER)

The Center for Lower Extremity Restoration, or Limb Center, is composed of a multidisciplinary team that specializes in the care of open fractures, non-healed fractures (nonunion), and chronic bone infections (osteomyelitis). Limb Center surgeons also have a broad experience in treating complex wounds, infected joint replacements, nerve injuries (foot drop), patella and Achilles tendon ruptures and the damage

produced by compartment syndrome. Utilizing state-of-the-art surgery in conjunction with coordinated specialty care has enabled limb preservation, decreased
deformity and improved function for many patients.

CENTER FOR RECONSTRUCTIVE MICROSURGERY

Microsurgical reconstruction is providing new and dramatic treatment options for patients affected by cancer, trauma and paralysis. The experienced surgeons of the Center for Reconstructive Microsurgery are leaders in microsurgical reconstruction, providing specialized reconstruction of the breast, mouth, jaw, neck, scalp, face and pelvis. Dedicated multidisciplinary teams are also available to treat patients with traumatic limb injuries, facial paralysis and genital-urinary abnormalities. Performing these procedures on a daily basis with a specialized team has created the environment required to make these complex surgeries predictable and reliable.
