Positively Pink educates women, welcomes surprise performer
Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands educated women about the importance of breast health at the 3rd Annual Positively Pink event on October 2.
Held at Dosey Doe – The Big Barn in The Woodlands, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Positively Pink included an informative Q&A session with Dr. Magda Ghobashy, medical director of Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands, inspirational videos about the importance of annual mammograms, and an opportunity to meet the hospital’s comprehensive breast care team.
“We hope everyone who attended Positively Pink left understanding the importance of having a screening mammogram every year, beginning at age 40, or earlier if you have a family history of breast cancer,” said Ghobashy. “Early detection is so important because the earlier breast cancer is found, the easier it is to treat.”
Entergy Texas supported the educational portion of the event, which was followed by a surprise musical performance by actor Charles Esten, best known for his role as Deacon Claybourne on the television series ‘Nashville.’
“I thought the event was super. When the doctor addressed the top ten reasons why women hesitate to get a mammogram, it really touched on all the things I’ve worried about. I just turned 40 and I have been apprehensive about getting a mammogram, but they really addressed my concerns,” said Ashley Vanar of The Woodlands, “And getting to hear Charles Esten perform was such a surprise. He was incredible, sweet and very engaging with everyone.”
“Seeing Charles Esten was a real treat. Everything about the event was perfect, including the opportunity to bring a gift bag to a friend, which included information about mammograms and Positively Pink Dosey Doe coffee,” said guest Ronda Durham.
“I can’t say enough about this event. It was eye-opening as the hospital staff discussed relevant issues about breast health. The serious conversation was balanced by the wonderful entertainment by ‘Deacon’ from ‘Nashville’,” said Kris Fisher of The Woodlands.
