Our Team
Our division's minimally invasive surgeons are nationally recognized leaders in their field. In clinical trials, such technologies have been shown to cause fewer postsurgical complications.
Our surgeons participate in and present at weekly grand rounds for the Department of Surgery and Lynda K. and David M. Underwood Center for Digestive Health. Highly sought after, our experts attend conferences across the country and host a conference focused on minimally invasive surgical procedures.
We are also actively involved with organizations such as the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

Our Research
Current research endeavors include a robust database that measures detailed clinical outcomes and costs to further improve excellence and efficiencies, including cost-containment research and supply chain optimization. We are also a leader in exploring and testing the use of innovative technologies, such as mixed-reality headsets and spatial computing devices, to continually improve visualization and techniques in minimally invasive surgery.
Our division’s research enables us to provide superior clinical outcomes and ongoing meaningful innovation in the medical landscape. We strive to be good stewards of the hospital's and the general public's resources while advancing state-of-the-art surgical techniques and pioneering innovative approaches to minimally invasive procedures.
Education & Training
We regularly train residents, fellows and medical and physician assistant (PA) students, ensuring they can safely and confidently perform the full range of laparoscopic procedures, including off-axis surgical training and the use of 2mm and 3mm instrumentation.
Our students learn, through practice, to be well-rounded and adaptable surgeons who can use a range of surgical tools and methods — from the smallest 2mm robotic instruments to non-robotic procedures, if best for the patient.
Our Advanced GI MIS/Bariatric Fellowship is a one-year advanced minimally invasive, GI and bariatric surgery fellowship offering an educational experience in therapeutic flexible endoscopy, including peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM).
Dr. Patrick R. Reardon and Dr. Lee M. Morris have also become known for their screened and peer-reviewed physician video series, Texas Minimally Invasive Surgery Team.
Residency & Fellowship Programs
For Patients
Our minimally invasive surgeons are members of the Underwood Center for Digestive Health, frequently partnering with gastroenterologists and other specialists to address gastrointestinal (GI) surgical needs.
