Doctor speaking with patient

Approximately 19 million Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes. Another 79 million show pre-diabetic symptoms and are prime candidates for developing the disease, according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Houston Methodist’s endocrinologydiabetes and metabolism department offers patients a comprehensive, integrated team of health care experts who provide personalized care for individuals with diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and/or lipid disorders, as well as endocrine and metabolic disorders. Our specialists work collaboratively with referring physicians to ensure that patients benefit from emerging advances in clinical care and research.

Our department of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism screens for, treats and manages the following conditions:

  • Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
  • Diabetes complications (especially cardiovascular)
  • Obesity
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)

When needed, our expert physicians work with the teams at the Houston Methodist J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center and Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center to treat complications associated with diabetes and transplantation, as well as cardiovascular conditions.

The endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism group treats patients undergoing pancreas and islet transplants and also works with the Houston Methodist Weight Management Center to help patients improve their nutrition and extend their healthy living.
