Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency – Houston Methodist Hospital
Mission
Houston Methodist Hospital’s Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency’s mission is to provide a quality, advanced education experience to physical therapists seeking to develop their clinical expertise in orthopedic physical therapy. Residents will engage in evidence-based clinical education and mentorship that prepares them for advanced practice in the management of orthopedic conditions across diverse patient populations.
The Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency exemplifies Houston Methodist’s I CARE values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence to enhance patient care. The program is committed to fostering professional growth, continuous improvement and alignment with strategic initiatives in orthopedic rehabilitation.
Overview
The Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency is a 12-month program, beginning annually in August. The program consists of intense clinical and didactic experiences in a hospital-based outpatient facility focused specifically on orthopedic rehabilitation. As part of the clinical portion of the residency, residents will receive one-on-one mentoring from board-certified specialists in orthopedics and sports medicine. Residents are employed as full-time, benefits-eligible, Houston Methodist employees and will carry a full patient caseload to allow for independent development of skills acquired throughout the curriculum.
By the completion of the program, residents will be prepared to sit for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Orthopedic Certified Specialist Examination.
