I was born and raised in a small town in South Dakota.  I was always interested in medicine and actually took my first EMT course when I was in 6th grade.  I became a certified EMT my senior year in high school and worked on the volunteer ambulance service thru college and the first 2 years of medical school. 

I went to college and Medical School at the University of South Dakota and then trained in Family Medicine at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, FL.  This is where my interest in Sports Medicine began.  I spent 3 years overseas with the Navy on the NATO base in Keflavik, Iceland.  I then returned to South Dakota to practice in Vermillion.  I became the team physician for the University of South Dakota and began to gain more interest in the new (then) specialty of Primary Care Sports Medicine.  In 1999, I passed the board exam and became board certified in Primary Care Sports Medicine. 

I moved to the Houston in 2000 to begin teaching at the residency program in Conroe, TX.  In 2006 the Lonestar Family Medicine Residency asked me to develop and run a sports medicine fellowship for them in Tomball.  We took our first fellow in 2007.  In 2010, I joined Houston Methodist as their first Primary Care Sports Medicine physician.  I developed a second sports medicine fellowship with Houston Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and we took our first fellow in 2012. 

I have spent time working and training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.  I have been on the medical staff for USA weightlifting and USA gymnastics.  I was the medical director of the world weightlifting championships in 2015 and traveled internationally to support team USA.  I am currently the Team Physician for Tomball High School and Cy Creek High School and help support all the schools in the Northwest Houston area.

I practice health promotion and disease prevention thru routine health maintenance exams for active people.  I care for musculoskeletal injuries with medications and injections along with exercise advice and rehabilitation programs.  I approach chronic medical conditions with the knowledge of how that condition affects a patient's ability to exercise and I also have a deep understanding of how exercise affects different chronic diseases.  I perform diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided injections when needed.
