Important Storm Resources

Below please find a variety of helpful resources you can use to prepare for a storm as well as during a storm.

Resources for Preparing for a Storm

  • Harris County Flood Education Mapping Tool. Learn if your location is vulnerable to stream flooding. The tool’s purpose is for Harris County residents to learn the location of their properties in relation to mapped 1% (100-year), 0.2% (500-year) and coastal floodplains. It includes regularly updated floodplain information.

  • Storm Prep Checklist. No one likes to think about a disaster before it happens, but preparing for one is important for you and your family's safety. Read our On Health blog article that shares five storm prep steps you should consider taking to prepare for a storm or other natural disaster:

Resources During a Storm

  • NOAA. Analyzes satellite imagery, other observations and computer models to make forecast decisions and create hazard information for hurricanes, tropical storms and tropical depressions.

  • HoustonTranStar. Evaluates road conditions for potential hazards including flash flooding, tropical storms and hurricanes.

  • Space City Weather. Dedicated to covering Houston weather news and forecasting with accuracy and without hype. Download the app, available for Apple and Android devices.

  • Harris County Flood Warning System. Measures rainfall amounts and monitors water levels in bayous and major streams on a real-time basis to inform you of dangerous weather conditions.
