CLINICAL OBSERVERSHIPS

Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services’ observership program allows physicians, residents and medical students who are invited by a Houston Methodist physician to shadow procedures and surgeries, attend patient rounds and teaching conferences, learn about the Houston Methodist culture and interact with our experts. The program is typically two to four weeks in length and does not include direct patient care. 

Eligibility
Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services’ observership participants must be hosted by a Houston Methodist physician who will oversee them during the observership period. The program is open to:

  • Fully trained international physicians practicing abroad.
  • International medical students, residents and fellows who are currently enrolled at a foreign institution and are expected to graduate from that institution.


Certificate of Completion
Because this is not a hands-on experience, Houston Methodist physicians cannot provide letters or recommendation or complete evaluation forms for observers. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for the dates of the observership.

Application
To apply for an observership:

  • Contact a Houston Methodist physician to confirm that they will oversee your visit. 
  • Once the physician agrees to host you, they will begin the process of submitting an observership request to Houston Methodist Global Education & Training. 
  • Once the request form is received from the physician, you will receive a link to complete the online application. Your application cannot be processed until all required forms and documents are complete. 


The application approval process requires four weeks. Please plan your start date with your host physician accordingly. 

CLINICAL FELLOWSHIPS

Houston Methodist is an educational destination for international physicians seeking interdisciplinary, team-based and patient-focused approaches to medical care. A clinical fellowship is a 12 to 24 month program and is a pathway for physicians to immerse themselves in aligned specialties.

Observership and fellowship programs are subject to fees.
