Onsite Laboratory Opens at Houston Methodist The Woodlands

Patients seen in Medical Office Building 1 can now have their blood drawn in the same building.
Laboratory Services is now open in MOB 1, on the first floor, Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is staffed with experienced phlebotomists.
“The two phlebotomists working in the onsite lab here in The Woodlands have a combined 40 years of experience in drawing blood and they are very proficient in what they do,” said Anita Farr, director of Laboratory Services, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. “Once they draw a patient’s blood, they will send it to Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center for testing until the The Woodlands hospital opens.”
Once the results are available, their doctor will be able to access the vital information within the Houston Methodist medical records system, without having to wait for the results from an outside laboratory.
The lab provides services for Houston Methodist, Quest and LabCorp, allowing patients on a variety of insurance plans to take advantage of the convenient location.
“Convenience is important to people. Not having to drive to another location to have blood drawn, is a great benefit,” said Farr.
“This is just another way Houston Methodist continues to show the community that we strive to provide optimal health care and convenience for both our patients and physicians,” added Kerrie Guerrero, chief nursing officer, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital.
Houston Methodist is extending the availability of the onsite lab to the entire community. Any patient needing blood drawn is invited to take advantage of the services in MOB 1, even if they are not seeing a Houston Methodist doctor.
The spacious lab was designed for growth. It has four rooms for drawing blood, allowing staff to be added in the near future.
