a virtual holiday adventure
On December 3, 2020, The Society for Leading Medicine hosted a virtual visit to the International Space Station. In partnership with NASA and Space Center Houston, we learned about the training astronauts go through to prepare for space, the experiments performed on the International Space Station and how to stay healthy once back on Earth. We were joined by a special guest, astronaut Dr. Kjell Lindgren, who was just named as one of the 18-member Artemis team to prepare to return to the Moon.
The program featured Houston Methodist President and CEO Dr. Marc Boom and his wife Dr. Julie Boom; Dr. Patrick McCulloch, John S. Dunn Endowed Chair Holder in Orthopedics and Vice Chair of the Houston Methodist Department of Orthopedic Surgery; Dr. Alessandro Grattoni, Frank J. and Jean Raymond Centennial Chair and Chairman of the Houston Methodist Department of Nanomedicine; Dr. Rick Scheuring, Human Landing System Surgeon with NASA Johnson Space Center and Associate Professor of Military and Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences; William Harris, President and CEO of Space Center Houston; and astronaut Dr. Lindgren.
The program began and ended with special holiday performances by pianist Dehner Franks from the Houston Methodist Center for Performing Arts Medicine, accompanied by a breathtaking video of the Earth from space. Enjoy – and happy holidays!
