SIEA procedure information

During the SIEA flap procedure, or superficial inferior epigastric artery flap, the surgeon harvests small vessels from the fatty layer just below the skin of the abdomen to utilize for the blood supply of a reconstructed breast. In some women, these vessels are adequate for use in reconstruction, and therefore the surgical dissection is even shallower than the alternative DIEP flap . In both procedures, the muscle is completely preserved.

Key Benefits
The following are benefits of the SIEA flap procedure:
  • Soft reconstruction
  • Complete preservation of abdominal muscles
  • Minimally invasive
  • Potential for restoration of normal sensation
