Application Process


  1. Download the Application for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) (En Español
  2. Read the annual notice. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act requires ACPE-accredited programs to provide this annual notice of ACPE: 
  3. Print and complete the application per the instructions on page 2. 
  4. When submitting your application via email, please submit your documentation in one PFD file. If you submit your application by mail, do not print double-sided or staple your documentation. Please follow the explicit instructions on the ACPE application when writing about each requirement.

Admission Process


The department’s admission process consists of the following steps:
  1. The applicant submits a completed application form, accompanied by a nonrefundable fee of $25. (We accept: Cash, checks, money order or cashier's check - Payable to: Houston Methodist Hospital)
  2. The applicant completes a virtual interview with the department’s CPE faculty, staff chaplains, and other members of the professional advisory group. The faculty may, at its discretion, accept a written report of an admission interview completed with an ACPE Certified Educator in another center. 
  3. Following the interview, the successful applicant receives a letter of acceptance from the CPE Center. 
  4. The applicant signs the letter as confirmation of his or her acceptance and returns it to the CPE office, accompanied by a $50 deposit to secure the position. 
  5. The applicant then, will receive a link to apply to the hospital position he or she is applying to.
  6. Then 30 days prior the program's starting date, applicant will receive further instruction to start the hospital onboarding process. 

In accepting candidates for admission to one of the hospital’s CPE programs, the faculty considers criteria that may include the balance in the peer group of men and women, racial, ethnic and national representation, and denominational representation.


Application Fee


  • CPE Residency Program: $25 Application Fee, then $50, due upon acceptance into the program
  • CPE Summer Program: $25 Application Fee, then  $50, due upon acceptance into the program
  • CPE Extended Program: $25 Application Fee, then $50, due upon acceptance into the program
  • CPE Certified Educator Candidate Program: $25 Application, then $50, due upon acceptance into the program
