The use of implanted devices for the treatment of spasticity caused by a stroke or multiple sclerosis, as well as for tremors, Parkinson’s disease, and depression, is gaining momentum in the neurological community.

This field, known as neuromodulation, will be a key topic during the Methodist Neurological Institute’s (NI’s) second annual Advances in Neurology conference, Sept. 8-10, at the Houston Marriott Medical Center.

The conference is geared toward neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists, as well as other neuroscience specialists, such as nurses and other health care professionals.  Attendees will hear from some of the most highly-regarded experts in the country on topics ranging from the latest imaging technology to current and future therapies in stroke, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, epilepsy and many other neurological conditions.

Additional topics of interest include the role that neurostimulation plays in other medical fields including cardiology and pain; alternative delivery of medication to the central nervous system; medical and surgical therapies available for neurological disorders; and advances in sleep medicine.

CME credits will be available, and the conference will be broadcast live via satellite to international health care facilities in Latin America and the Middle East.  For more information on the conference, call (713) 441-4263.
