Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital Glowing Pink in Honor of breast cancer awareness month
The Woodlands, Tex. – (October 1, 2015) –Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital turned the lights pink on Thursday, October 1, to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Putting a pink spotlight on the importance of early breast cancer detection, and lighting the billboards and Market Street panels in pink throughout October is a visible reminder of the significance of breast cancer awareness. “I cannot stress the importance of early detection," said Debbie Sukin, regional senior vice president, Houston Methodist and chief executive officer of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. "The earlier treatment begins, the higher the survival rate."
Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital will open its six-story medical office building in early 2016, which will house the Breast Care Center. “We are excited to have Dr. Magda Ghobashy serve as our medical director of the Breast Care Center,” Sukin said. “She is a board certified fellowship trained in breast mammography and has dedicated her career to breast cancer detection.”
“At Houston Methodist The Woodlands, Dr. Ghobashy will have state of the art imaging equipment that will enable her to identify cancer quickly and arrange clinical intervention when needed,” continued Sukin.
By using pink lights to illuminate the hospital and billboards, Houston Methodist clearly shows its support of breast cancer awareness. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer; 85 percent of these women have no family history of the disease.
“Breast cancer is not just a concern for women,” said Sukin. “About 2,350 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in men. Everyone, both men and women, needs to be aware.”
