Houston Methodist announced today it has purchased land in Cypress to build its 9th hospital in the Houston area, meeting the health care needs of the rapidly growing 290 corridor.

The 106 acres on the east side of the Northwest Freeway between Barker-Cypress and Skinner roads, was formerly occupied by Sysco Corp and used for its administrative operations. The new hospital will be modeled after the comprehensive Houston Methodist West and Houston Methodist The Woodlands hospitals. It is master planned for 400 beds, multiple medical office buildings and provides the necessary acreage for growth and development.

“We look forward to bringing our promise of leading medicine by adding a hospital to a rapidly growing area, and we understand the importance of offering comprehensive services in areas such as cancer, heart, neurosciences, woman’s services, orthopedics and sports medicine,” said Marc Boom, M.D., president and CEO of Houston Methodist. “The population of this area is predicted to grow almost 9% over the next five years, and we are committed to providing the highest quality care, like we have for more than 100 years.”

Houston Methodist already has two clinics in the Cypress area.  The Cypress primary care clinic includes board-certified physicians specializing in family medicine and internal medicine.  The Boardwalk at Towne Lake offers state-of-the-art facilities, orthopedic and sports medicine, primary care, cardiology, neurology, physical therapy, mammography and women’s services, and outpatient therapy.

Construction details for the new hospital are not available yet as planning is ongoing, but Houston Methodist anticipates first opening outpatient clinics and medical staff offices. The hospital is expected to employ more than 500 people and may be ready to open as early as 2024.

“Houston Methodist is excited to participate in the economic development of the growing Cypress and North Houston community with medical and hospital staff job growth,” Boom said. “We are committed to sharing our vision of unparalleled health care with the Cypress community.”
