One of Fort Bend’s leading colon and rectal surgeons, Ali Mahmood, M.D., has joined Houston Methodist Surgical Associates.

Mahmood is board certified by the American Board of Surgeons and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is the current chair of surgery at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, he also holds a leadership role on the hospital's cancer committee, is a member of the hospital's medical executive board, and was voted Male Physician of Excellence by hospital nurses and staff.

Mahmood’s primary interest in the field of colorectal surgery is colon and rectal cancer, along with benign diseases such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and diverticulitis. He also offers treatment of common anorectal disorders such as hemorrhoids and pelvic floor disorders such as rectal prolapse and fecal incontinence.

Mahmood grew up in Houston, and after leaving Texas for medical school, residency and fellowship, he returned home to practice medicine. He has been appointed a clinical assistant professor in the department of surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, and as clinical faculty at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.  His technical expertise and surgical knowledge are recognized continually.  Dr. Mahmood serves as a national reviewer of two peer-reviewed journals, and has authored numerous papers on the scope of colon and rectal surgery.  He continues to perform the highest volume of colon and rectal surgeries in Fort Bend, and is determined to deliver medical center quality of care to all his patients.
