The Houston Methodist Lung Center is now designated as a Care Center Network for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF), an endorsement of its ability to accurately diagnose and treat people with this deadly lung disease.

Located in the Texas Medical Center, the Houston Methodist Lung Center team treats patients with chronic lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis; pulmonary fibrosis associated with connective tissues diseases; and drug-associated lung diseases, which often lead to end-stage lung disease and death, if left untreated. In addition to diagnosis and treatment, patients have access to clinical research focused on investigational therapies for pulmonary fibrosis.

Pulmonary fibrosis causes progressive scarring in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe and get sufficient oxygen into the bloodstream. There is no known cure.

“This designation means that the Houston Methodist Lung Center is dedicated to comprehensively managing complex pulmonary fibrosis cases, and helping our patients through this journey of living with pulmonary fibrosis,” said Zeenat Safdar, M.D., M.S., director of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Care Center at the Houston Methodist Lung Center.

The Houston Methodist Lung Center team includes experts in pulmonary medicine, rheumatology, radiology and pathology who provide a comprehensive review of each patient’s case to tailor an individual treatment plan.

More than 200,000 Americans live with pulmonary fibrosis, and more than 40,000 die each year.
