About Dr. Timothy Wagner
Dr. Timothy Wagner is a board-certified radiation oncologist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Houston Methodist Hospital. He grew up in Massachusetts, completing his undergraduate degree, medical degree and an MBA from Tufts University and a transitional medicine internship at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio followed by a four-year residency in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. During that time, he served as chief resident for two and a half years.
He served as a staff physician at Brooke Army Medical Center followed by a tour as Chief of the Radiation Oncology Service at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. While at Tripler, he cared for patients as part of the Pacific Island Health Care Project. This program offered the opportunity to study and treat patients from around the Pacific islands, including a large population of patients with advanced head and neck cancers.
He left the military in 2014 with the rank of lieutenant colonel select and joined the faculty in the Radiation Oncology Department at Baylor College of Medicine. There he specialized in treating head and neck, breast and CNS malignancies, and enjoyed teaching and participating in clinical research. He was named Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Teacher of the Year in 2016. He also served as the medical director of the Baylor St. Luke’s Kirby Glen Radiation Therapy and CyberKnife Center.
In 2019, he joined the Radiation Oncology Department at Mays Cancer Center, UT Health San Antonio-MD Anderson Cancer Center as an associate professor. He was named program director of the radiation oncology residency program and enjoyed teaching and mentoring future radiation oncologists. Dr. Wagner was promoted to full professor of radiation oncology and was named the vice-chair of clinical operations in the Radiation Oncology Department. He treated several disease sites, with a primary focus on head and neck cancer, thoracic malignancies, and gastrointestinal malignancies. He stayed active in clinical research, serving as principal investigator on numerous clinical trials.
Dr. Wagner maintains a strong passion for patient care and is humbled by the opportunity to help patients with their cancer care.
Outside of his medical practice he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He remains a diehard Boston fan though has a soft spot for local teams.
