About Dr. Olufolahan Carrena, MD
Dedicated to providing highly personalized and excellent care, meticulously tailored to meet the unique needs of every patient, across a spectrum of cardiovascular conditions. I strive to integrate both medical and interventional options orchestrated to offer a comprehensive and compassionate treatment journey for each individual under my care. Additionally, I believe in educating each patient in my care so that they are equipped with the proper knowledge to make decisions regarding their health.
Growing up in Nigeria, Dr. Carrena went to medical school at the University of Lagos and spent her residency there at the National Orthopedic Hospital. She left in 2014 to join her family in the United States. Her internal medicine internship and training was completed at Meharry Medical College in Nashville Tennessee, where she also served as chief resident.
Dr. Carrena completed Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology training at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and worked in private practice before joining Houston Methodist, Baytown. During training she was chief fellow as well as a Michigan state ACC chapter fellow-in-training representative from 2020-2022. She also served as the co-chair of the ACC chapter between 2021 and 2022.
Her professional society memberships include AOA, ACC, ASNC and American College of Physicians (ACP). She was part of the planning committee for the 33rd ACC Michigan Annual Conference. Dr. Carrena is an author on a few publications and has had poster presentations at ACC’s Scientific Sessions and the Annual Meeting of the ACP. Her research projects have included studies around cardiotoxicity, physician adherence to diabetes-related quality measures, and knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards postgraduate medical training among medical students.
Dr. Carrena is passionate about quality of care and patient centered care. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac Computed Tomography.
When she is not working, she enjoys traveling with her family and experimenting with new recipes.
