Dr. Helmi Khadra, Chief of Endocrine Surgery, is a board-certified surgeon specializing in the surgical management of benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, and gastrointestinal-pancreatic neuroendocrine system. He is one of the highest-volume endocrine surgeons in the country, performing more than 800 operations annually, and is frequently referred complex and challenging endocrine surgical cases from across the United States and internationally.

 

Dr. Khadra is among the most experienced adrenal surgeons in the country and is internationally recognized as a pioneer in robotic adrenal surgery. He maintains one of the nation's highest-volume adrenal surgery practices and has helped advance minimally invasive approaches to complex adrenal disease. His pioneering work includes performing the world's first documented robotic posterior retroperitoneoscopic single-port adrenalectomy. His expertise in parathyroid surgery encompasses complex primary and reoperative disease as well as highly specialized procedures, including living unrelated donor parathyroid transplantation.

 

Dr. Khadra is also an expert in minimally invasive, nonsurgical treatment of thyroid nodules, including radiofrequency and microwave ablation, providing appropriately selected patients with alternatives to conventional thyroid surgery. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Khadra serves as Director of the ACS AEI Research Fellowship and Director of Robotic Surgery Education.
