Editor note: February is American Heart Month

The Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center will host the first Houston Heart Failure Management Conference, an educational seminar for heart failure patients. The event takes place at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 4 at the Houston Methodist Research Institute, 6670 Bertner Ave., in the Texas Medical Center.

It will feature a cooking demonstration on how to prepare low sodium meals, tips on how to properly manage blood pressure, fluid and salt intake and medications at home as well as other heart failure-related topics.

“Heart failure is the most common reason why people age 65 and older go into the hospital,” said Arvind Bhimaraj, M.D., a cardiologist with Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center. “We hope educating these patients about the ins and outs of their disease will help keep them on the right track and out of the hospital.”

The event is free and open to the public. To register for the event, log on to the Houston Heart Failure Management Conference webpage. For more information, log on to the event Facebook page or call 713-441-6943.
