The DIEP flap, or deep inferior epigastric perforator flap, uses excess abdominal skin and fat from the lower part of the abdomen. During the procedure, a reconstructive surgeon separates from the abdominal muscles the vessels that supply blood flow to the flap, leaving them completely preserved.
