This condensed weekend course in the fundamentals of cardiovascular sciences for fellows and residents is designed to upgrade knowledge early in training. Experience a full day of hands-on skills training with world-renowned faculty and hear from over 60 speakers in a two-day speed lecture format.

    • Interventional radiology
  • 3rd year primary certificate vascular surgery residents

What to Expect

Day 1 and 2
On the first and second day, trainees immediately begin honing their technical skills with two full days of hands-on training with cadavers and simulators. Trainees can choose from 3 tracks: vascular surgery, cardiology, and cardiac surgery.

  • The vascular surgery track will demonstrate ultrasound-guided access, dissection and exposures on cadavers, and open vascular and endovascular surgical training. 
  • The cardiology track covers topics such as TEE/TTE interpretation using simulators, emergent hands-on management, tips and tricks for vascular access, cardiac catheterization, and a guided tour of cardiac and vascular anatomy from a surgeon’s point of view. 
  • The cardiac surgery track will review cardiopulmonary bypass, coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic valve replacement, mitral valve techniques, aortic root replacement, and A-Fib ablation procedures. 

Day 3

The final day is comprised of interactive lectures on lower extremity arterial disease and renal artery disease, followed by concurrent sessions on the topics of abdominal and thoracic aortic disease, venous disease, heart failure, heart rhythm, ischemic disease, visceral artery disease, thoracic outlet and upper extremity, dialysis access, cardiac imaging, and structural heart disease.

Cost

DeBakey Education & Training offers this course to attendees from U.S. institutions free of charge, covering all registration fees, hotel accommodation costs at the Hotel ZaZa and meals.

In addition, DeBakey Education & Training is offering a stipend of $400 towards travel for U.S. institution attendees coming from out of town (airfare & airport shuttle) on a first come first serve basis. Please book your own flights. DeBakey Education & Training will book your hotel accommodations and send you a confirmation.
