Welcome to the inaugural issue of Houston Methodist Foundation magazine, celebrating the successful completion of the Leading Medicine. Giving Hope. campaign. This issue spotlights the generosity and involvement of Houston Methodist's family of benefactors and the impact of their philanthropy on the hospital's transition into a leading academic medical center.
In Living Proof, we share the awe-inspiring story of cancer patient Noel Denison, who is winning her battle with breast cancer thanks to a clinical trial offered through Houston Methodist Research Institute's Cockrell Center for Advanced Therapeutics—a program bolstered by the generosity of long-time supporters, and the Cockrell Foundation. In It's a Woman's Word, we delve into the groundbreaking work of Dr. Barbara Bass and three of her colleagues who have shattered the proverbial glass ceiling and are reaching new heights in the traditionally male-dominated surgical field. In The Many Minds of Stepehn Wong, readers catch a glimpse of the ingenious, nontraditional methods of scientist, Dr. Stephen Wong, who is seeking cures for Alzheimer's and other debilitating conditions by repurposing drugs already approved for other uses.
In spotlighting these and many other phenomenal people and programs at Houston Methodist, we illustrate the power of philanthropy and its crucial role in building a healthier society.
