DeBakey Cardiovascular (CV) Education is dedicated to advancing cardiovascular education, research and innovation through comprehensive, high-quality educational programs and simulation-based training. We design and deliver immersive learning experiences that support the training of residents, fellows, nurses and multidisciplinary cardiovascular teams across Houston, the United States, and the world.

Course Catalog
Building on Dr. Michael E. DeBakey’s commitment to excellence in education, Houston Methodist DeBakey CV Education was established in 2010 and today offers globally accessible, comprehensive cardiovascular education. We provide hands-on training for health professionals at every level. Our training programs span cardiovascular medicine, focusing on cardiology, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, imaging and more.

Our mission is to promote training and education to address all aspects of cardiovascular (CV) disease in Houston, the United States, and across the world. By promoting cardiovascular education, DeBakey CV Education seeks to improve cardiovascular health, and reduce the global burden of cardiovascular disease.

We are committed to teaching the next generation of cardiovascular physicians to use innovative medical, surgical and diagnostic techniques.
In 2010, Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center received an $8M grant from The DeBakey Medical Foundation and was tasked with building the premier cardiovascular training organization in the world. Today, our hands-on training opportunities are highly sought after, and we are world-renowned for offering free access to our digital training videos.
The DeBakey Difference
DeBakey CV Education's Skills Academy gives you the opportunity to take what you learned in lectures and hone your skills with expert-led, hands-on training. We offer courses for health care professionals of all levels, from teaching first-year medical students the basics of suturing to training seasoned physicians advanced TAVR techniques. Our hands-on courses offer invaluable training in the latest cardiovascular techniques and devices, with opportunities to practice on a variety of models and simulators in the cardiology, cardiac surgery and vascular surgery arenas.
Our faculty of renowned clinicians and surgeons are dedicated to educating the next generation of cardiovascular physicians. In collaboration with experts from around the world, our faculty are involved with every step of event planning and teaching, ensuring that learners receive the most up-to-date and relevant clinical training.

The Bookout Center houses the Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation & Education (MITIE), which serves as a virtual hospital equipped with hybrid operating room, customizable training stations, conference space and more. Its fusion of robotics, imaging and digital surgery overlaps extended reality (XR), virtual reality (VR) and 3D modeling with CT scans and X-rays using patient-specific cases for training purposes. Trainees move seamlessly between training and clinical settings to interacting with physicians in Houston Methodist's operating rooms and laboratories.

The Houston Methodist DeBakey Cardiovascular Journal and our video collections on YouTube and Vimeo offer abundant, accessible opportunities for heart and vascular specialists to stay informed. A video textbook on Aortic CV Care will go live in 2026.
