Fueling Innovation in Brain Health

Neurological diseases and injuries not only rob us of our health — they unravel the natural connection between body and mind. At the Houston Methodist Neurological Institute, we’re at the forefront of academic research, developing new clinical trials and protocols that inform international standards of neurological care. Ranked a Top 20 program in neurology/neurosurgery nationally by U.S. News & World Report, we're home to more than 80 neurosciences faculty members and 11 specialized neurology centers and programs.

Philanthropic investment is essential to discovery of novel therapies for devastating neurological challenges, such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), brain tumors and Parkinson’s disease. With generous support, our experts work across disciplines to provide a comprehensive path and treatment plan for even the most complex neurological conditions.

Armed with Philanthropy, a Surgeon Builds a Pain Intervention Pipeline

When a Houston Methodist patient with Parkinson’s disease experienced tightness and discomfort in his lower back, his primary care doctor and specialist team did what functional neurosurgeon and pain expert Dr. Amir H. Faraji would have hoped. They referred the individual for deep brain stimulation (DBS) treatment.

Eddy Scurlock Stroke Center

The Eddy Scurlock Stroke Center was the first in the nation to earn DNV Healthcare’s Comprehensive Stroke Center certification, reflecting the highest level of stroke care infrastructure. Rapid-response, 24/7 stroke care is delivered with advanced treatments, including acute stroke reperfusion therapies, clot-retrieval procedures and intricate neurovascular interventions for ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes.

Neuro Research Laboratories

Fourteen neurosurgery research labs are actively pursuing breakthroughs across a wide range of neurological and neurosurgical conditions, from neuroplasticity and neural electrokinetics to pituitary tumors.
