CRTEC
Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination
CRTEC Goals
- Serve in a leadership role to integrate key ongoing institutional research, training and education activities
- The Office of CRTEC is developing the infrastructure needed to implement broad and inclusive training programs across the Neal Cancer Center. In addition to establishing a CRTEC Advisory Board that will evaluate and advise the office of CRTEC on the development of new training programs, we have worked with Houston Methodist Academic Institute’s Office of Education to coordinate training and educational activities for our cancer center trainees and faculty.
- Coordinate and expand research, education and training activities for all individuals in the HMNCC
- The office of CRTEC coordinates assistance with biostatistics, scientific writing, and graphic design for trainees’ grant applications. To help our trainees sharpen their grant writing skills, the office of CRTEC facilitates our trainees to attend courses that are routinely offered by the Houston Methodist Academic Institute Office of Education. These courses cover topics such as grant writing essentials, introduction to NIH grant components, grant submission process, and personal coaching for specific aims.
- Expand training and educational activities to the catchment areas
- We will continue to develop interactions with community colleges, high schools and elementary schools for training opportunity, and explore opportunities to train community health workers.
- Enhance career development of trainees/summer students and faculty from underrepresented groups
- HMNCC will work closely with out Office of Culture and Engagement to recruit students and trainees from underrepresented groups.
Program Leader
The CRTEC team and leadership (Chih-chi Andrew Hu, PhD) works closely with Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) and educators to increase education and outreach to diverse populations and cultivates an environment of lifelong learning throughout our catchment area.
