"I chose Houston Methodist because I wanted to train where I would not just be challenged but be immersed in diversity. With Houston being rich in culture and home to the largest medical center in the world, I knew this program was a fit for me. On interview day, after interacting with the faculty and residents, I felt that this environment was conducive for my learning. Furthermore, my family lives an hour away, and I wanted to be near them during residency. Surrounding myself with a strong support system was a top priority for me and I found that at Houston Methodist."

"I chose the Houston Methodist Family Medicine Program because I knew that I would be supported here. The program is very strong academically and, as such, we continue to develop strong clinical leaders. In addition to the excellent learning we receive as residents, we are also given the opportunity to serve the low-income and underinsured communities of Houston. I chose this program because of their emphasis on giving back to the community as well as the tremendous support they provide to us as resident physicians."

"I chose Houston Methodist because I wanted a program that has everything I wanted out of my family medicine residency: to get a world-class education, to have access to all the resources to make me a successful physician, and to engage with and serve a diverse patient population. After meeting everyone on interview day and seeing firsthand their desire to teach and grow, I knew that I had found the perfect fit."

"At Houston Methodist, I am being trained to care for the most vulnerable communities with advanced diseases, coupled with lack of personal resources, at our federally qualified clinics. On the other hand, I have the opportunity to serve patients who come from all across the globe to seek care at the largest medical center in the world. This dichotomy is molding me into the resourceful family physician that I have always dreamt of becoming.
And the best part is, I get to do this with an amazing team of co-residents who are always there to support each other, and with brilliant faculty, leaders in their own fields, who are always approachable and willing to teach. I feel very fortunate to be a member of the Houston Methodist family, and I wouldn't rather be anywhere else but here."

"Being a part of the Houston Methodist Family Medicine Program has been one of the most gratifying experiences in my professional and personal life. Since the first day, I’ve admired the excellent mentorship I’ve received from both hospital and clinic attendings. Our faculty are very welcoming, always maintaining a positive attitude, and a willingness to provide feedback and encouragement to residents.
My co-residents have become new family since I moved to Houston. Their support has helped me overcome challenges, and together we’ve celebrated each other’s’ successes. Even the staff of this residency program, especially in our continuity clinics, have shared advice, information, and resources to help us deliver the best care to all our patients – especially the under-served. It is a blessing to work with so many people who are so motivated to make our communities stronger and healthier."

"One of my favorite things about this program is the culture we have cultivated. The culture permeates throughout the organization of the Family Medicine Residency and the Houston Methodist system. It is represented by the values we all hold dear, the focus on exceptional patient care, and the mutual respect held among peers, mentors, and other team members.
Since the first day of residency, I have felt like a valuable team member; where my input was appreciated and carefully considered. There is a delicate balance maintained of autonomy and proper supervision. I have never felt like I couldn't reach out to my fellow residents or faculty for clarification, help or support. We all share a common desire to lead medicine and carry forward the sacred duty to care for patients."
