Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital Transitional Year Residency

About Our Program

We offer a robust and well-rounded training program designed to prepare exceptional medical graduates for advanced residencies. Our trainees develop a strong foundation in clinical medicine and ultimately become board-certified physicians capable of serving diverse patient populations.

As part of the Houston Methodist system—recognized nationally for quality, safety and innovation—we offer a uniquely supportive environment where residents are challenged to grow as physicians and professionals. Therefore, trainees are encouraged to explore various interests, including scholarship, education, advocacy and leadership.

These interests are supported through access to the Houston Methodist Academic Institute and system-wide resources.

  • Our Transitional Year residents benefit from:
  • Comprehensive clinical training in inpatient and ambulatory settings.
  • A flexible curriculum with electives that support individual career goals.
  • Faculty mentorship focused on wellness, scholarship and leadership.
  • A collaborative culture rooted in compassion, integrity and excellence.

The Transitional Year Residency Program will be accepting six training spots beginning with the July 1, 2026 academic year.
