Family Medicine Residency

About Our Program

The Houston Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency offers a broad range of educational experiences to help residents achieve their professional goals, including:

Houston Methodist Hospital, our sponsoring institution in the heart of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center, is at the forefront of patient care, medical education, and research in the United States. US News & World Report has rated Houston Methodist as the best hospital in Texas for the past 14 years and to their “Honor Roll” (recognizing the best hospitals in the nation).

Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, our community-based teaching site just East of Houston, is also a top-ranking hospital by US News & World Report. HMB was recently expanded to offer a wide variety of specialties and clinical services to the residents of East Houston, Baytown and surrounding communities.

Two Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) where residents provide longitudinal care to their panels of continuity patients: Vecino’s Denver Harbor Family Health Center in Houston and Legacy Community Health’s Legacy San Jacinto Clinic in Baytown. Both clinics provide high quality medical and behavioral health services to patients of all ages and socioeconomic statuses, with an emphasis on caring for underserved populations in our communities. At both clinic sites residents offer full spectrum family medicine, including maternity care and procedures.

Learning by caring for patents at Houston Methodist hospitals and at our FQHC clinics allows our trainees to have an educational experience that is unique in opportunity and exposure.

Graduates of the program practice in a variety of clinical settings around Texas and across the country, including inpatient, outpatient, urgent care, long-term care, and home visits. We have successfully placed numerous graduates in sports medicine and geriatrics fellowships, as well as other subspecialty programs. We are dedicated to helping our residents identify and achieve their own personal and professional goals.

The committed and enthusiastic core and volunteer faculty, the team-oriented, hard-working residents, and the dedicated staff and leadership of the hospitals, clinics, and other training sites are the backbone of our program. When you begin training here, you become part of our Family Medicine Family.
