“I felt like I was living in a whole new world”

Tara Goodwin was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at seven months old. By the age of 19, her lungs were failing, and the medicine keeping her alive had damaged her liver. At 30, she needed a rare double lung and liver transplant — a surgery that had been performed on fewer than 100 people worldwide at the time.

Before her transplant, Tara relied on supplemental oxygen, a feeding tube and IVs. Even showering was overwhelming. Thanks to the extraordinary care team at Houston Methodist, Tara received her lifesaving surgery. Today — more than eight years later — she travels the world, takes classes and breathes freely without pain.

By making a gift to the Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation, you can help fund research, training and treatments that empower care teams to save lives like Tara’s. Your gift can bring patients and families hope for a future they once thought impossible.
