Dr. Fadi Abu-Shahin joins Houston Methodist Cancer Center at Willowbrook
Fadi Abu-Shahin, M.D., a medical oncologist and hematologist, recently joined Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
Abu-Shahin received his medical degree from the University of Jordan, Faculty of Medicine in Amman Jordan. He completed his internship in internal medicine at King Hussein Cancer Center, also in Amman. In 2009, Abu-Shahin moved to Tennessee to complete his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in medical oncology from East Tennessee State University. Prior to his current position at Houston Methodist Willowbrook, Abu-Shahin served as medical oncologist at Wellmont Medical Associates Hematology & Oncology in Tennessee.
“Each cancer is a unique disease” said Abu-Shahin, a member of the Houston Methodist Cancer Center who treats patients with all forms of cancer rather than just one area of malignancy. “This maintains my skills in treating many illnesses but it does require more work in order to stay up to date with all the advancements that happen in the field. In order to treat cancer, you need to know all the specifics for that particular type before you finalize a treatment plan for the patient. “
In addition to caring for cancer patients, Abu-Shahin treats individuals with all varieties of blood disorders such as hemophilia, clotting factor problems, sickle cell disease and other types of anemia.
Abu-Shahin believes that following the most current, evidence-based practices is essential in the treatment of potentially devastating medical disorders.
“I am passionate about providing excellent care for my patients,” he said. “I want people to know that if they come and see me, they’re going to be taken care of. They’re part of my family.”
Abu-Shahin is board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. He speaks fluent Arabic.
