Biography

After receiving his doctoral degree in Epidemiology from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health in 1993, Dr. Graviss joined the Michael DeBakey Houston VA Medical Center in Houston as an infectious disease epidemiologist. He became a Research Instructor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in 1994, and was later promoted to dual Associate Professorships there and in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine in the section of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Graviss joined Houston Methodist Hospital and the Center for Molecular and Translational Human Infectious Diseases Research at the Houston Methodist Research Institute in 2008, where he now holds a position of Professor, Epidemiologist and Research Scientist. Dr. Graviss holds several other joint adjunct positions including at the UT School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics & Environmental Sciences and at the Health Tecnolóico de Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico. In 2015, Dr. Graviss became a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America.

Description of Research

Dr. Graviss has extensive expertise in the study of the epidemiology and population-based surveillance of a variety of infectious agents including Mycobacterium tuberculosis. His recent studies focus on evaluation of the new Interferon Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) in the diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection. In addition, Dr. Graviss has an interest in outcomes research and has performed extensive biostatistical and epidemiologic analyses for the HMH Department of Surgery and JC Walter Jr. Transplant Center.
