General Advice
- Do not be afraid to ask questions
- Call your physician or pharmacist immediately if you have an unpleasant or unusual reaction to a medication
- Throw away old medications, including those that have expired, lost their labels, changed in odor or appearance. Throw medications down the toilet. Throw away all old containers.
- Keep medications away from children.
- Keep medications away from pets.
- Store medications properly (e.g. refrigerator)
- Follow the instructions on medications (schedule of times, shake well, empty stomach)
- Consult your health-care provider regularly to see if you should continue your medication
- Post phone numbers of your emergency medical service, hospital, pharmacy and health-care provider
- Do not stop taking your medication abruptly or change dosage without checking with your health-care provider, even if you are feeling better.
- Do not take someone else's medication, or give yours to another person.Do not transfer medications to other containers, unless instructed to do so.
- Do not take medications in the dark - turn on lights to avoid taking the wrong medication
- Do not take medications unless you understand the instructions for using them safely.
