Application Process
All applicants will be interviewed on-site by the Admissions Committee prior to making a final decision. The committee will decide on final resident selection after taking into consideration all components of each prospective resident's application package.

Strong applicants demonstrate a thorough understanding of the purpose of residency programs as they relate to the mission of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), a firm commitment to completing the program, and a strong desire to learn and to continue skill development after residency through ongoing education and mentorship. Applicants should also possess effective communication skills and a professional demeanor, show evidence of being both a team player and a leader, and can exemplify the I CARE values of Houston Methodist.

Athletic Training Residency Retention/Minimum Completion Criteria Policy:
  • To remain in good standing throughout the residency program, the resident must:
    • Fully participate in all required didactic and clinical experiences
    • Maintain the required minimum passing score for all assignments
    • Adhere to all policy and procedures set forth in this manual
    • Adhere to all policy and procedures set forth in the Houston Methodist Sugar Land employee handbook
