Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Houston Baptist University, May 1984. Graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Master of Science in Biology from University of Houston, May 2003. Master´s research paper entitled: “Hypothesis: The Type IV Secretion System of Helicobacter pylori Induces the Ectopic Expression of CDX2 and CDX1 in Gastric Epithelial Cells Leading to the Development of Intestinal Metaplasia”.
Certified by American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Technologist in Microbiology.

Biography

Research Assistant in the Ocular Microbiology Laboratory in the Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine from 1985 until 1999. Research Assistant in the Gastroenterology Microbiology Laboratory in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine from 1999 until 2001. Research Assistant in the Department of Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine from 2001 until 2002. Worked on an animal model to study the relationship of H. pylori infection to intestinal metaplasia and cancer. Research Assistant in the Department of Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine. Worked on an animal model of prostate cancer. Senior Research Assistant in the Ophthalmic Pathology Research Laboratory at the Methodist Hospital Research Institute from 2006 until present.

Description of Research

Perform immunohistochemistry, primary tissue culture of retinoblastoma tumors, invasion assays, and molecular studies in order to characterize metastatic and non-metastatic retinoblastoma, to investigate the cell of origin of retinoblastoma, and to study the role of cancer stem cells.
